Let’s Make a Change: Supporting LGBTQIA+ Youth with the Proud Ambassadors Project

Mental health and social inclusion are fundamental rights for all young people. However, LGBTQIA+ youth across Europe continue to face discrimination, exclusion, and mental health challenges that often go unaddressed. At PAL Network, we believe in the power of collaboration and advocacy to create meaningful change. That’s why we are proud to be a partner in the Proud Ambassadors project—a transformative initiative dedicated to improving the mental well-being and social inclusion of LGBTQIA+ youth.

Understanding the Challenge

Many LGBTQIA+ young people struggle with mental health issues due to societal stigma, lack of support, and discrimination based on their Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, and/or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC). Studies show that these youth are at higher risk for anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. Unfortunately, due to fear of judgment or lack of accessible services, many do not receive the support they need.

The Proud Ambassadors Initiative

The Proud Ambassadors project aims to change this by focusing on mental health awareness, reporting, and inclusion. By bringing together youth workers, mental health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and LGBTQIA+ organizations, the project fosters a supportive environment where LGBTQIA+ youth can thrive.

Our Role at PAL Network

As a committed partner, PAL Network is actively involved in:

  • Raising awareness about LGBTQIA+ mental health challenges and the need for inclusive support systems.
  • Collaborating with youth workers and organizations to ensure LGBTQIA+ youth have access to safe spaces and essential mental health resources.
